ABOUT US

Our Practice

We recognise that the construction industry is constantly evolving.  Our aim is to innovate where appropriate and to provide well considered, sustainable and reliable design solutions on every project that we undertake, without exception.

At the outset of every project, we establish our client’s needs and aspirations in order to form a brief from which our design can then be developed.  Early in the design process, we review low and zero carbon building technologies and solutions, in order to maximise the environmental sustainability of a project within the budgetary constraints.

We produce detailed drawing layouts, diagrams and schematics which provide the appropriate detail for contractors to accurately price the work.  In conjunction with our technical specifications, the drawings are then used to form the basis of an agreed contract for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the new services.  We offer site monitoring and witnessing of testing and commissioning to ensure that uniform and high standards of workmanship are achieved and ultimately that our clients obtain fully serviceable and functional buildings.

Reducing the environmental impact of buildings both during construction and operation is now a fundamental requirement of all projects.  We have strengthened our expertise in engineering low energy buildings and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by qualifying and registering staff with the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) as Low Carbon Consultants.  We have trained and qualified staff who are able to prepare energy models and provide and carry out SBEM calculations and BRUKL compliance reports for buildings falling under Approved Document L Volume 2 of the Building Regulations (any new building that is not classed as a dwelling).  We can also offer as-constructed BRUKL compliance reporting and EPC lodgement.

Our Company Values

We have made a commitment to help our planet by working to meet Net Zero Carbon through reducing the environmental impact of buildings during their design, construction and operation. Our team take the time to investigate the latest technologies, methodologies and practices that are available and how they can be suitably applied in sustainable building design.

ESDP History

How it all began

ESDP provides mechanical and electrical building engineering services consultancy in the UK and has been trading as a Partnership and latterly as a Limited company for over 45 years.

Originally established as ESD in 1979 by John Woodger, Lawrence Jones and David Winch, the partnership initially took over the building services design workload of the Redditch Development Corporation which had been set up to establish the Redditch Newtown from the mid 1960’s.

The business developed to take on major clients including the Post Office and Housing Associations which formed the core workload to grow the business through the 1980’s. During the early 1990’s the business started to develop Client relationships in other sectors including education and industrial sectors.

Continuing growth

In 1997/1998 the next generation of business partners were introduced – Robin Woodger and Trevor Harper who took the business with Lawrence through the transformation to a Limited company in 2002.  During this period, the company expanded to work on healthcare projects, historical buildings and municipal developments along with Education, Industrial, Commercial and Residential sectors.

As the world strives to minimise its environmental impact, we recognise our duty as Consulting Engineers and Energy Assessors to ensure that all designs minimise carbon emissions in the drive towards net zero, and comply with all required regulations and standards. We work collaboratively to ensure innovative and sustainable designs are provided to meet the needs of our clients who regularly return to ESDP with repeat commissions.

Our engineers are motivated professionals with membership of relevant institutions including the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Institution of Lighting Professionals.

We recognise that the industry is constantly evolving and invest heavily in updating IT hardware, software and in staff training, to make best use of the latest design tools and technologies including Building Information Modelling (BIM). Consequently, we operate the latest industry design and calculation software including Autodesk Revit, AutoCad, IES Virtual Environment, Dialux, Bentley building services & Trimble Amtech cable calculation software, enabling us to provide a reliable and highly professional service to all of our clients.
