Project Description: |
A new 2,300sqm, four storey, higher level skills University Centre providing learning space for Higher Education, Adult Community Learning and Business Advantage. A BREEAM Excellent Building. |
Services Provided by ESDP: |
Concept, feasibility and enhanced performance design services, with site monitoring through to completion. |
Design Features: |
Solar hot water heating and rainwater recycling. Optimisation of natural heating, ventilation and daylighting.
The building is primarily naturally ventilated using the exposed thermal mass to cool the internal spaces. Automatic windows that open at night are coupled with an underfloor air supply delivery to facilitate night cooling of the building thermal mass thereby reducing energy usage. In areas where mechanical cooling and ventilation are provided, high efficiency heat recovery is incorporated.
The heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems are fitted with energy saving variable speed drives, and the ventilation systems have optimised demand control to regulate air volume depending on condition.
Good levels of daylighting are achieved which considerably reduce the need for artificial lighting and this along with individual lighting control systems lower energy costs and carbon emissions. |
