Project Description: |
The building provides facilities for trades and trainees to learn green energy skills. A BREEAM Excellent Building that won the 2014 Michelmores Western Morning News Property Awards Building of the Year Award as well as Eco Project of the Year.
The building includes a biomass boiler, variable speed drive motors, solar thermal hot water heating, a solar thermal wall to pre-heat fresh-air ventilation, photovoltaic arrays, rainwater collection to serve flushing cisterns and computer managed energy systems.
The building is primarily naturally ventilated utilising exposed thermal mass to regulate space temperatures. Automatic windows are opened at night coupled with controlled high level outlets to facilitate night cooling of the building thermal mass thereby reducing energy usage.
Good levels of daylighting are achieved which considerably reduce the need for artificial lighting along with individual lighting control systems. |
